Can you believe it!! The On Iowa! PICK ONE Expo (POE) is in two short weeks (Aug. 24)!
Thank you so much for registering (University of Iowa Powerlifting) to participate in this important part of On Iowa! This message is full of the details you need to know for that day.
Your PICK ONE! Category (Sports Clubs/Intramurals) will be located on Hubbard Park which is where you will meet (Caleb Recker) to check-in your organization. A map of Hubbard Park will be sent in a separate email. Your organization will be provided a table if you want to display information about the group. If you have an activity that you want to do that ties in with your organization’s purpose, please feel free to engage the On Iowa participants in that activity. Remember: No chairs will be provided for your organization as it is our committee’s expectation that your members are up and about, talking with the On Iowa students!
Remember, the point of the POE is to Engage the first year students in conversations about why it's important to be involved on campus and share with them what you have gotten out of being involved. We want to show them that getting involved while they are at Iowa is beneficial to them and will make their time here all the better. You can talk to them about your specific organization and share information about your group’s purpose, activities, etc. If you want to have clipboards where visiting students can sign up to be added to your group’s OrgSync portal or list-serve, please feel free to do so.
LOGISTICS: The metered parking lot between the IMU and Hubbard Park will be barricaded and monitored to allow only those people in who need to unload items for POE. Parking volunteers will note the time of your arrival, get the driver's name, cell phone number and other information. You will have 15 minutes to get your items unloaded before you will be required to move the vehicle to the parking ramp or other location.
Load-in: Saturday, Aug. 24, 1:30 PM-2:30 PM
Be completely set and ready to go by 2:45 PM
Members should wear a t-shirt or polo with your organization's name on it so the On Iowa participants can easily distinguish which group they are with. If they have a nametag, button, etc. that includes the org. name, they can wear that also.
We could start seeing the On Iowa students begin trickling into Hubbard Park by 3:00 PM which is why it is imperative that we have everyone and everything ready to go by 2:45 PM.
The event concludes at 5:00 PM at which time you can begin to clean up our area. If your organization needs to load items back out and into a vehicle, please gather them all in a central area curbside outside the Hubbard Park entrance while the driver retrieves the vehicle. This will expedite the load-out process and hopefully allow a quicker turn-over of cars in the parking lot.
In the case of rain or extreme heat, the event will move into the IMU. We will notify you Friday, Aug. 23 if that change will be made and update you on your group’s new location within the building.
If your organization is no longer able to participate in the POE, please notify the Center for Student Involvement immediately at getinvolved@uiowa.edu. You may also send any questions you may have about the POE to that address as well.
