Dude, that gif is possibly one of the single best things in existence on teh internets ever. I want it framed on my wall. Well, our wall. Then Kyle really might have an ego expansion problem, hmm.

As if chiseled out of a block of marble. I really want to move up to 165, but I don't want to give up any definition. Thoughts/advice?

One of the rare days in which I didn't feel like training. I flipped the script and did some reverse-band floor pressing to work on my lockout while not taxing my shoulder too much. These went well; final set was 230 at bottom, 255 at top, and it felt easy. RPE for that set was probably 7-8. All my floor presses are paused reps with my legs flat on the ground, so my focus here was really just building lockout strength.

Hammer Curls/Bicep Curls
40x12, 12
40x12, 12
30x12, 12

The pressing I'm doing is starting to get more difficult, but I was still able to AMRAP the last set and press these without too much difficulty. Based on the ridiculous programming I'm running, the rest of my training should look something like this:

Week one:
Saturday: 240x5, 250x5x2, 250x5+

Week two:
Tuesday: 245x4, 255x4x2, 255x4+
Saturday: 250x4, 260x4x2, 260x4+

Week three:
Tuesday: 255x3, 265x3x2, 265x3+
Saturday: 260x3, 270x3x2, 270x3+

Week four:
Tuesday: 265x2, 275x2x2, 275x2+
Saturday: 270x2, 280x2x2, 280x2+

I'll try to continue hitting AMRAPs for as long as I can, which might not be for too much longer. But if I can ride this out, I'll be hitting paused doubles at 280, which should put me in range for 300+ in October. I am definitely feeling stronger with my press thanks to all this paused work, and I'm excited to see what I'll be able to do with a week's rest.

I took my first elected day off in I-don't-know-how-long yesterday. Felt tired and a bit run-down, so I opted to sleep instead of doing my DE work. Overall, I think the decision to rest will be a good one over the long haul. Since my July 14th meet concluded, I have taken a grand total of four days off (three to heal tendinitis in my right bicep and shoulder, and now one because I was tired), so I was probably due for a rest. I jumped right into my training after the last meet and have done ten consecutive weeks of meet prep immediately after my last meet. I feel fine, but I want to make sure I'm peaking at the right time, so my decision to skip this session was a strategic one.

My paused bench press is getting much better. I'm very close to my touch-and-go numbers from earlier in this training cycle, and I'm outpacing my paused bench sets leading up to my April meet (PRs included 240x5 and 255x4 at the end of that cycle; I pressed 292 in competition). These still look and feel good, and I'm leaving a rep or so in the tank before the last set. Next week I press 255x4 and then 260x4 for work sets, all paused.

Deadlift
135x3
135x3
225x2
315x1
405x1
455x1
500x3
520x3 (PR)

Block Pulls (just below knees)
495x5

GHRs
BWx10
BWx10
BWx10

Hamstring Sled Drags, four trips

Reverse Hypers
BWx12
+30x12
+30x9

Next cycle is a ME deficit cycle; I need to beat 505 from a 4-inch deficit, 520 from a 2.5-inch deficit, and 540 from a 1.5-inch deficit to outpace my deficit deadlifts from last cycle.

A few notes on these deadlifts: I'm getting my hips MUCH lower now, and I have no idea why. It just feels natural to me; if I can ever start getting my shoulders further back, I might start locking out weights easier.

520x3 is a three-rep PR; for the heck of it, I tried 540x2 and got it. My grip hasn't been fantastic these past couple of weeks, so I might mix in a bit of grip work later. Part of this could just be the bent bars at the rec.

This is kind of interesting, as I pull with my hips pretty high and my lockout is my stronger portion.

PostSubject: Re: The 1400 or Bust Log   Mon Oct 01, 2012 8:30 am

Yeah--one reason why I struggle at lockout is because my body is so far in front of the bar at the start of my pull. Bringing my hips down will make it easier to pull my shoulders back. This of course seems like a simple fix until you realize that not having quite so much leverage over the bar will result, for me, in a loss of speed. So, I don't know if the trade-off is worth it yet.

I'll experiment a bit after this next meet.
