| We need volunteers to staff this. I would like to have all the below positions filled:
Meet director- Chris Anderson
Head judge- Seth Thompson Side judge #1- Ashley Glecker Side judge #2- Hanan Fadel
Side spotter/loader #1- Nathan Poage Side spotter/loader #2- Zach Berger Back spotter- Tanner Creary (spell check)
Announcer- Janis Finkelman Scorer- Kyle Keough Registration assistant- Chris Coffman
The more volunteers, the better this will run! Intramural Services has said they will be putting more marketing and advertising into this meet. Seth and I will be meeting with them within the next week. Coffman, I would like you to be there as well. Let me know when you could come and all three of us will try to meet and discuss everything before we go.
This event will be on a Thursday, likely in the late afternoon/evening.
We are also looking for competitors! Again, the more, the better. If you're looking to compete in the first time or just see where you're at, please enter the meet! We have a handful of people in this club that I think this meet would be great for.
Competitors:
Sydra Smith Nelson Colón Andy Awad Richard Gonzalez Sam Schwartz Sammie Jo
As we get more information, I will post it here and on the club Facebook page. Let's make this a really great event.
BIG UPDATE:
So, Coffman, Kyle, and myself met with Rec Services today. The meeting went well, although we didn't quite get what we wanted, due to all the information about the meet already being put out.
Cliffs:
No advanced registration Rec Services will be setting up a table the week before the meet in the CRWC to get people interested We should be getting a list of the emails of those who display interest at said table Everybody who competes must be a UI student Next year, there is a strong possibility of expanding the meet and making it more along the lines of what we have envisioned Slight change to the rules: wraps and a belt will be allowed. (I really doubt anybody will use knee wraps, and wrist wraps will probably be pretty rare)

| As of right now I think I will put you as the scorer. That's an important job and I definitely want somebody with experience to be on top of it. I think you said Janis did it last year, and if she wants to do it again, that would be great too. I would probably have you be the announcer if that were the case--you two would essentially just be dividing up a larger task.
Also, the intramural people replied to me and told me that they are very busy with other intramurals for the next couple of weeks, and we may have to wait until early February to meet with them.

| Alright, now that Poage has volunteered for side judging, we only need one more.
Thanks for volunteering, this is totally going into the friendship thread.

I know straps were against the rules last year.

i believe straps will not be allowed. i am not aware of any federation that allows straps (unless you count strongman)

| Thoughts on something like this? First attempts are recent PRs and the subsequent attempts are bumped up 4-5%??? Is that a good or bad idea?
S 340, 355, 370 B 215, 225, 235 D 425, 445, 465
(The curious hypocrite that I am squatted in wraps this morning. Squatting is a little off anyway because I haven't been doing real squats and on top of that the warps made the movement pretty weird and I worked up to 335 but I'm going to pretend 340 is a recent max.) |

| Why would you open with something you just PRd? | |

| A good plan is usually to open around 90% of your current max (something you could triple) and take 5-7% jumps from there depending if you want to progress aggressively or conservatively with your attempts. You want your openers to be something you can hit no matter what so you can at least have a total. | |

| I figured if I already PRed it I should get it for sure since my strength won't go down. 90% seems like nothing. Should be easier gaining weight instead if losing it too. |

| Maybe the third attempts are far fetched though...

| I guess I would also rather bomb out of a lift versus not PR in that lift |

| As you probably know strength levels aren't the same every day, and usually a PR will happen on one of the better days. Your opener should be easy, it's purpose is to solely get you in the meet. The PR attempts usually come on the third attempts, sometimes the second if the PR is pretty old or if something drastic changed that sparked some really good progress in training. It takes some fantastic training to PR in all three lifts at a powerlifting meet and from my experience and watching others it doesn't happen very often. The focus is usually on putting together a good total. Obviously hitting PRs on all the lifts would be great but it just usually doesn't happen. Taking 9 near max attempts takes a toll on your body.
There's a lot that goes into planning your attempts and its just about how you want to manage it. Just about all of us that have competed will probably tell you that a good opener is 90% and that opening at current PRs might not be the best idea. It's your meet and obviously you can manage it how you want, but if you're looking for some advice you will probably hear that its best to play it safe with your openers.

Well if you bomb out on a lift, you bomb out of the entire meet.

| Ok thanks for the explanation Seth. I'll probably make the second attempts third attempts and lower the openers. |

How often do you use chalk when you deadlift? That usually helps a lot with a slippy grip.
