PostSubject: Will's Training Log   Tue Nov 25, 2014 9:02 am

I've been power cleaning for a couple of weeks now. I've messed around before but not for such a long period (if 2-3 weeks is long) and I've never done a rational progression on the movement. The pattern I've settled into is a seance with six doubles plus ~5lbs alternating with a seance working up to something heavier and I've been doing maybe 4-5 of these sessions a week.

Today I set a PR under really atrocious conditions so I'm feeling optimistic.

I think I power cleaned 265 but it may have caught it too low. My starting position has my hips way lower than in ^ video. The way 243 went up I know I can make a lot of progress but i got REALLY mindfucked and messed up the first pull on all my attempts at 265--it took me several.

Got 120kg=264lbs on video today:

I've been trying different things with my starting position. Before I was getting over the bar and I'd have no idea what I was going to do. I've solved that problem with my current style but there's probably still a lot I can do better (which is good because there's plenty on the table for me). I don't think http://i.imgur.com/xdDwR2u.png looks right for one thing:

Tried separating the bar slower like you're really supposed to (I've been stubborn about this). New technique? Why not go for a 22lbs PR? Missed racking 286. I'm so weak standing up that I can't try to catch it any lower. Tried power cleaning it again and gave up before it past my knees. Bar got away from me on both attempts. I think I'll get it in a month. I need to improve my front squat.... like a lot. It's probably the glaring weakness of all the lower body lifts (my sumo prolly sucks too I've just never given it a go).

It's kinda of weird how success or failure drastically affects my mood. I've read that when you lose in a game or sport your test levels decrease and when you win your test levels increase. I wonder how much that accounts for my experience. It's really radical like I'm on a psychoactive drug or something. Enough touchy feely doe.

I think you have to play the long game with oly technique. When you go from bad, but comfortable to better and less comfortable it doesn't pay off immediately

Okay, I feel like squatting again for a period of time. This time it's in oly shoes.

2/8

Power Cean to 235 (easy)
Bilateral takeoff
Unilateral takeoff
Squat to 315x5
One set GHR & top set eccentric calves with 50lbs DB

2/9

Power Clean to 220x2x1

Moved my grip out even wider. I wasn't sure how the bar was marked in the seance prior so I guessed and I think I spontaneously moved my grip out. I realized this when I started warming up for this session. My pinkies are probably 2" from the Oly rings now and the bar is accordingly higher on my thighs. These look better to me and felt good. It felt like I could have exploded harder.

2/11

Power Clean to 100kg
Squat to 335lbs

First session wasn't very good. Groggy. Bloated. Couldn't feel anything.

Unilateral take off
Bilateral take off
Power Clean to 100kg for a few singles
Squat to 375lbs

This would actually be a 1RM Squat PR if I hit depth (as I bailed out of the last block of my previoussquat cycle back in the fall and only wound up hitting I think 300x14@10RPE). I'm not too concerned about it either way. It was pretty fast I don't think it really got stuck. Oly shoes seem to help a lot. I thought I would be rebuilding for a little while but this is a good sign so far.

2/16

Power Clean 100kgx4, 1
Squat 140kgx10

Overextended my spine cleaning so I shut that down. Cautiously loaded up the bar to squat and worked up to 3pps for 10 iterations.

2/19

Squat to 355
VJ to smack pipe on cieling #StuntinIsAHabit

This was way harder than it should have been because I'm guarding my injury so the movement is changed. I've also been eating around maybe 1000Kcal a day since I hurt my back on Monday (pretty sure all I ate today was banana and a piece of bread with some cheese and turkey--oh a glass of milk too). Pain kills my appetite. I was able to do this pain free obviously (as I'm not that reckless). I will take it easy on the cleans until I can do full ROM RDLs painfree. That might take a while but I feel good about training around it and squatting--even heavy squating--should be OK as long as I am very mindful of my spine

2/20

[sobstory]Really subpar unilateral dunks/attempts. I was losing my balance warming up (what??) and it felt like I was getting out of breath for no reason. Stomach upset. Was definitely hypoglycemic partway through which surprised me because I had some food beforehand. I've been eating prolly like 1/3 of maintenance for several days guess it caught up w me. Yeah just felt really tentative and inconsistent. Tweaking my back put a wrinkle in my training for sure and I really think all this is traced back to Mondays unfortunate event. Not gonna get too upset though. My back is doing a lot better. Which says more about how messed up I was than to say I feel great now.[/sobstory]

2/21

Squat to 365@9.33

The music cut out right as I went under the bar to unrack it. The whole time I was thinking don't let this distract you don't let this distract which backfired big time. I'm gonna call it RPE nine and a third or so. Depth isn't convincing but I think it would be okay in a singlet and knee sleeves. Which is purely hypothetical. I'm regaining my constitution though. I think I would be good for 385 in a few days. Another hypothetical.

2/21 Part 2

Unilateral dunks
Quad pump climbing 5 flights to the weightroom
Some eccentric calves

This went incredibly well. Smooth as butter. Then I started thinking too hard. I prefer the hoops on the side that don't have lines or markings. That's something I need to get over. In general I find it incredibly hard to coordinate fast movement. It sucks that I'm taking a little break from cleaning because I was just starting to realize how everything should really feel. I'm pretty sure I was gonna PC 130kg=287lbs that day I hurt my back. When I do ease back into it I'm going to make complexes with different part of the pulls a priority. I was playing around with that just before I hurt myself and it made the biggest difference of all.

2/24

Squat two failed attempts 385, then to 225x10

Decent speed out of the bottom but when it slowed down I couldn't grind at all. My back angle got a little too horizontal. Form breaks down gradually when the weight goes up; I'm stronger in this position to finish the lift but it was too much for me. For the first time in my life it almost felt like I would dump it over my head. Trying to correct that took too much out of me. Took another attempt. Couldn't grind at all. Stripped the bar down and squatted a set with 135 and 225. Really tried to feel it out. I'm definitely stronger when I go deeper. Now I know what to do.

I don't think I'm more than 1-1.5" high *shrugs*

Gonna keep posting videos--even the bad ones--to keep my accountable
