Rehab experience? Empty
PostSubject: Rehab experience?   Rehab experience? Icon_minitimeTue Oct 02, 2012 6:55 pm

Hey guys, so I haven't shown my face at all right after joining...the reason? I fractured my patella straight down the center just over two weeks ago. I have a long history of patellar subluxations (and deep squatting actually alleviated a lot of associated pain!) and apparently this last one was one-to-many and caused the fracture (damn volleyball!)

Anyways, I'm going to be cleared to walk in 3 weeks (hooray screws in my knee!) and then I will begin my own rehab work. I'm posting because I want to know if any one here has experience rehab-ing a major knee injury as I would like to pick your brain.

Currently my rehab is limited to straight leg raises, which I do around 30-50 of them a day, and working on flexion just by flexing until meeting resistance.

My quadricep atrophy is tremendous.

If anyone has any experience and knows of any good sources I'd greatly appreciate the help!

-Sean

First, none of us are trained professionals in anyway, so take anything we say with a grain of salt. But here is my advice. Essentially, do whatever you can as long as it doesn't hurt. A lot of guys seems to rehab well with a ton of really high rep work, as in sets as high as 50 or 100. This is to get a ton of blood (which carries nutrients) into the area, promoting healing. This is with very light loads, of course. One resource I would suggest to look into are the logs on EiteFTS; they have a section dedicated towards rehab. Take a look, read what you can, and send one of them an email.

EDIT: Here is the link.

If the pain increases during/after the exercise you need time off

If the pain alleviates or improves during/after the exercise you can proceed with caution

not that I actually follow my own advice

You could always give Louie Simmons a call. He answers his phone at around lunchtime and would probably be willing to impart some basic advice on rehab. He hates the notoriously slow, cautious procedure of PTs for athletes, so know that his advice might be a little aggressive.
