You used to pull conventional right? Think you'll ever go back? I was really surprised that (1) I could DL again and (2) pull with a rounded back safely.

Yeah. I will go back eventually, but I am planning on doing my meet sumo for the time being. I think it will be good to build up some more before moving back to a more stressful movement
Edit: I've really only ever hurt my back or front squatting

fosho
edit: me too. i'm very sensitive to relaxing my back when i squat. it's a mystery to me that I can get away with so much flexion when I DL

My thought is that the rebound in the hole from squatting multiplies the stress

that's all I've been able to come up with but I think I could hurt it with a pin or pause squat too so I just donno.

I could definitely see a pause squat causing it, but that still has an eccentric. Do you mean bottoms-up squats by pin squats?

Yeah that's what I mean. But I was thinking it could happen after the pause too. I donno really though.

and actually I think the only difference between a pause squat and a pin squat might be that during the isometric you have more muscle tone if you're doing a pause squat whereas from the pins you're starting from resting. I wonder if the mechanics are different beyond that. Not really germane to the discussion I'm just a nerd about this stuff : )

My understanding of physics is really weak so maybe someone can chime in.
The angle between the bar and your lower back relative to the floor is much smaller in the bottom portion of a squat. Isn't this going to cause much more stress than a deadlift taking for granted the idea that the weight is loaded through your shoulders? Everybody pulls with hips > 90, so could this make sense?
A comparable hip position on a deadlift doesn't even seem feasible

I'm a little confused. My back is more horizontal at the start of a pull vs squat.

Once I break it off the floor I'm basically stiff-legged and spine is folded into a "C". Donno how my back puts up with it but I get fucked when I squat half that amount and relax my erectors ever-so-slightly.
Might also have something to do with the glutes being stretched more in the squat which tugs on the illium.

I've done it in total for a few years so it came back quick. It took me a couple months before it was tolerable at working weights and around a year before I lost all feels
