So I have a friend that is a Crossfitter and she has been bugging me to go to with her... so I did that this morning. It was interesting...? I did enjoy the circuit training, but I thought it was kind of weird how everything was a race.

I was checking into that a little. Is it a cross between bodybuilding and powerlifting or what is it?

It is more or less circuit training and oly lifting. No bench pressing, but there is overhead pressing.
Today we did rowing with machines, and then a 7x7x7 circuit of ring rows, pushups and body weight squats. We did the 7x7x7 over and over for 7 minutes. I didn't count how many times I got through it, I just did it... but everyone else called out how many times they did the circuit when we were done. (The other workouts they do looked like they were harder, but this was just a free Saturday "invite a friend" workout that I attended).
There are a bunch of different workouts of the day posted on whiteboards everywhere and you have X amount of time to do Y amount of circuits of all these different things. It seems cool to push yourself, but at the same time I feel like there is danger that your form would go to shit from doing so much so fast, especially with complicated oly lifts.

I think I'm going to try to restrain myself on this one, but I'll respect crossfit when I see an approach to training from it that makes sense. What the hell are they trying for with this described circuit? Conditioning or strength? No, you can't train both at the same time. Not to any appreciable degree. Bleh.

I think it was supposed to be conditioning. Since it was a free workout for friends of members to come try, I think it was designed to be something for people who don't work out on a regular basis will think is hard like they are getting a workout but not so hard to scare them away.
And I agree with you that you can't train conditioning and strength at the same time... when the dude in charge was telling me about how in a matter of a 3 days/week, 4 week beginner program he progresses people from doing no lifts at all to doing all the Oly lifts safely on their own AND that after the beginner program people jump into all the WODs, my only thought was "well that sounds dangerous". The WODs they had posted everywhere were all about how fast you can get X number of things done, not about how WELL anything was done.
Idk, if it kept the conditioning separate from the oly lifting, it seems like it would be cool... but alot of the WODs are quick conditioning mixed with oly liftingand seem like terrible ideas.
It's like Crossfit is attempting to be a cross training program, which cross training is totally a good thing, but executing it poorly and dangerously.

yeah...I mean...yeah. I really can't say anything better about crossfit than what you just stated. I wish I could--rather, I wish it was founded in principles that make sense to me that, even if I don't wish to pursue them as a strength sport, I could still say I think are reasonable, productive ones. I just have a lot of people who either a/ ask me about it because their only concept of strength training seems to be one that involves crossfit or b/ parrot the bullshit that its practitioners like to parrot without being able to back up their parroting. And sometimes I just get sick of it. See: conversation on FB with a friend of Grant's who decided to make personal attacks on me/my lifting because he couldn't substantiate his own SHIT arguments regarding crossfit's worth.
Crossfit, it seems to me, gives people an excellent chance to feel like they're devoting themselves to something (or "somethings" if you include the fad diets that are often advocated by those practicing it) even if they have no knowledge regarding the intricacies of what they're devoting themselves to or if what makes up that intricacy actually even makes any sense. People blindly aligning themselves with something? Hmm, that's familiar. Sorry, I couldn't resist the comparison. I tried. I failed.

Fun Fact: Today in lab Slap Dick said he was going to get into BJJ. His weightlifting background should give him an advantage.

He's already hardcore enough.
Seriously though, people are going to sense his attitude within the first five minutes and teach him a lesson, unless he wipes that mean-mug off of his face.

Okay, who is Slap Dick?
And also, I am in Chicago for spring break doing volunteer legal work... not sure what the gym situation will be like until I get there.
