You don't have 205 in you. You will die trying. srs Don't be a hero, kid.

| So, a little change of plans. I think I will be competing at the NASA meet in two weeks. It just makes more sense to me money wise at this point in time (assuming that we still have a gold card entry I can use) and traveling to Des Moines is much easier for me. My lifts have been feeling very good lately so I don't have any problem competing a few weeks earlier then planned. This next week will be my last week of training before the meet and I'm pretty much planning on working up to a few heavy singles. I will probably stay pretty conservative with my attempts at this meet as I am really focused on hitting a good total. Was pretty disappointed with my last full meet so I'm looking to redeem myself. | |

Best of luck, brah. Disappointing that you won't compete in Dubuque, but I understand the reasoning.

| Also I should mention that I don't know that I will be competing at 198, I may just go in as a light 220 pounder as I've been waking up 208-209 the last couple days. I know I'm not going to set any records so weight class isn't as big of a deal to me right now as long as my relative strength and total go up. To be honest, I'd just like to be back where I was last spring as far as relative strength. Getting hurt this summer was a considerable setback to my squat and deadlift, so I would consider being back where I was a success. | |

| 10/14
agile 8
deadlift 135x10 (stiff leg) 225x5 275x3 315x2 365x1 405x1 435x1 470x1 505x1
front squat 135x5x2
hanging leg raise 1x10
Notes: Deadlift went smooth. Hit my approximate opener and second attempt at 470 and 505. Both went up well. This meet I am putting a lot into hitting my third attempts and keeping all attempts conservative. I feel like my strength is where it needs to be.

band pull aparts 4x20
wide grip bench press 135x10
pullups 1x10
Notes: Bench feels strong. 260 and 280 are going to be my first and second attempts. 280 went up without any real struggle. I might do some very light bench pressing early next week, not sure yet.

Notes: Getting more comfortable with weight on my back. 370 and 405 are my approximate first and second attempts. Both went up well. Woke up this morning with a crazy calve cramp for some reason, bothered me all day. It did not effect my squatting though.

| Quick meet write up:
Weighed in friday night at 202.6. I felt good lifting Saturday, was probably around 208-210 which is about where I've been training. I went 8 for 9 with 418/276/524. To be honest I was satisfied with all of these numbers, though I was expecting a little more out of my bench. That's life though. I've figured out that my bench is almost never where I expect it to be at a meet.
The 418 squat and 524 deadlift were both all-time PRs and the 276 bench was a meet PR. The deadlift looked better on video than it felt to me. Overall I was satisfied with how this meet went. Going 8 for 9 and totaling over 1200 for this first time was a definite success in my mind.
Huge thanks to Chris for filming, and I have to throw out that all three of us that competed had great days. I know lots of PRs were broken. Good showing for UI Powerlifting.
I most likely won't compete again until the spring. I'm going to jump right into some higher volume training. The plan is 5/3/1 with boring but big for assistance. A few tweaks, I will be adding a front squat day, so training 5 days a week. Also instead of doing 5x10 deadlifts I'm going to do some lighter SLDLs, as I don't know how well my body would handle 5x10 deadlifts. Pretty excited to see how I react to this volume. That's all.

| I'll add in that I think you did a really good job with your attempt selection. Your third squat and deadlift each looked like you put everything you had in them, while still keeping them makeable. | |

| Thank you, that was the goal.
Training from today:
10/28
agile 8
front squat bx5 95x4 135x3 160x5 185x5 210x5
snatch grip DL 135x10x5
lying leg raise 5x10
Notes: Still a little stiff from the meet, but it didn't seem to affect my training much. 210x5 was a little challenging but in a weird way. I think it was more of a balance issue, as it wasn't so much an issue of getting out of the hole as it was just controlling my momentum. To be honest my training is going to be pretty boring for awhile. I'm just going to pound away at the volume and see how I react. Switched from doing SLDL's to snatch grip, I'm not sure why. I've never done them before and am intentionally starting light, though I did feel fatigued by the end of the 5th set.

| 10/29
press bx10 65x5 80x5 95x3 105x5 120x5 135x5
bench press 130x10x5
rear delt raise (between press sets) 8x15
plate-loaded row machine 5x10
cable pushdown 3x10
db curl 3x10
Notes: I can tell I haven't pressed in awhile, but that usually comes back pretty quick. Everything felt funny when I put my belt and wrist wraps on for my last set. Felt backwards for some reason.
